Dr. Ziskrout grew up in Southern California and began his eyecare career as an optician after graduating from Cañada College in 1987. He earned his board certification from the American Board of Opticianry and National Contact Lens Examiners. He attended California State University at Los Angeles, majoring in Biological Sciences. In 1993, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in visual science from Pacific University and his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1997 at Pacific University College of Optometry.
Post-graduation, Dr. Ziskrout began a Family Practice Residency at the University of Houston College of Optometry (UHCO). While there, he was promoted to Chief Resident. Upon completion of the residency, he joined the college of optometry as adjunct clinical faculty. He is still a part-time adjunct clinical faculty at UHCO.
Early in his career, he worked in various practice modalities including 8 years with a prominent Houston ophthalmology group wherein he performed many thousands of pre/post op surgical care for LASIK & PRK, cataract, and eye lid surgeries, including managing diabetic and glaucoma patients. He managed numerous ocular trauma/eye injuries, infections (viral, bacterial, allergic), dry eyes, and enjoyed solving complicated spectacle prescriptions issues.
In 2002, he and his wife, Dr. Katie Pham, founded the first Eye Trends-Barker Cypress. For over two decades they proudly served the greater Cypress community. Their special joy was helping so many wonderful people resolve their visual and ocular health concerns. The ability and skill to help provide the gift of sight has been an incredible humbling experience. One of Dr. Ziskrout’s specialties is fitting complex contact lenses, especially scleral contacts for challenging eye conditions such as Keratoconus.
Dr. Ziskrout’s hobbies include playing guitar, woodworking, and martial arts. He is a 4th degree black belt in ITF TaeKwon-Do (TKD). He competed around the country for 14 years and earned a coveted spot on TEAM USA to represent the United States at several World Championship events.
He is extremely proud of his military service. He served as a combat engineer in the US Air National Guard for six years.
